Licensing Act 2003 Update

The Licensing Act 2003 requires that licensing authorities review their statement of principles. The statement of licensing policy document that sets out how Medway Council will administer processes required under the Act.

The existing policy has been rewritten to reflect current legislation and guidance on the matters the Council can have regard to when considering an application, the introduction of Cumulative Impact Policy areas and to confirm our arrangements for ensuring that premises comply with their licence conditions and responsibilities.

You will be able to view the revised Statement of Licensing Policy and access the consultation response form from 1 November 2017 at

Alternatively, you may wish to come along to St Georges Centre on Thursday 23 November or Tuesday 9 January when staff will be available to answer any questions between the hours of 09:30 and 16:30.

All responses must be received by Wednesday 31 January 2018, these responses will then be taken into account when considering whether to adopt the revised policy in this format or make further changes in the revised Policy.

Full Council will then consider the revised Policy including any changes on 26 April 2018 for adoption. The final statement will be published on 1 May 2018.
